Activities

The Pine Orchard Yacht & Country Club is a private club catering to the social and athletic interests of our members and their families.

Today these facilities include:

A 9-Hole golf course, 8 Har-Tru, 1 hard tennis court, 4 pickleball courts, an Olympic swimming pool, a kiddie pool, and a 103-Slip and 27-Moorings Marina, as well as our fine Clubhouse.

We have always been a family-oriented club with Junior Programs in sailing, golf, swimming, tennis, arts and crafts, along with specialty activities such as STEM Workshops, Pollinator’s Club, Curious Creatures, and Movies on the Lawn.

  • Dining
    • Our Clubhouse offers dining in several different venues—the Grille Room, Marine Lounge, Snack Bar, and the Main Dining Room and Ballroom.

      Each Area Provides a Different Level of Formality

      Our Snack Bar at the Pool is the most informal setting. The Marine Lounge setting is informal, with expansive views of the harbor for adults twenty-one and over. Our Grille Room and Patio is popular for families and more formal dining.

      Formal events and private functions take place in the Dining Room and Ballroom.

  • Golf
    • Pine Orchard Yacht & Country Club sports a scenic 9-hole golf course on its 82 acre seashore property. Players of all skill levels find satisfaction on this Club's greens.

      Description of Our Greens

      The terrain runs from hilly and wooded to open seaside expanses. With sand and grass bunkers, areas of fescue, granite outcroppings, significant tidal marsh, a creek with cart and pedestrian bridges - not to mention the two shots you have to make across a local road - our modest course presents numerous challenges.

      Technical Details

      We have 10 greens and 18 sets of tees so you can play 9, 18, 27 or 36-hole tournaments.

      POYCC is rated with a slope of 131, grading at 71.8 and approximately 6400 yards of 18-hole play. The Front 9 is 3150 yards, the Back 9 is 3262 yards.

      Walkers are allowed and there are electric rental carts available. In the busy season, carts may be required to keep players moving along.

      Our Pro Shop & Programs

      Our Pro Shop is fully stocked with apparel, equipment and golfing necessities.

      Our Pros have active programs for Men, Ladies - both 18 and 9 holers, Mixed, Juniors and Mini-Me Golfers. The Men’s, Ladies and Mixed Golfers have several member-member and member-guest tournaments each season, as well as regular golf days to play the course.

      Juniors have ample opportunity to play as well, with special summer clinics and lots of attention from the Pros. Currently, the U13 Junior Golf Team are the Shoreline Champions for the third year in a row!

      Private Events

      The Pine Orchard Club is a private club, however, our facilities are available for private functions if sponsored by a member.

  • Tennis
    • Description of Our Courts

      Our 8 Har-Tru, 1 hard tennis court and four pickleball courts are well-maintained and are great for players of any skill level. Our USTA regulation courts have pergola nearby to provide shade on hot days. The courts have plenty of seating and viewing areas for visitors, including a deck with chairs and umbrellas.

      Our Pro Shop & Programs

      Our Pro Shop is fully stocked with apparel, equipment and tennis necessities.

      Our Pros have active programs for men, ladies, juniors and children. The Men’s, Ladies and Mixed Players have several member-member and member-guest tournaments each season, as well as regular tennis days to play on the court.

  • Pool
    • The Pine Orchard Yacht & Country Club offers an Olympic sized swimming pool for members and their children. For the littlest ones, there is a separate "Kiddie" Pool.

      Locker facilities adjacent to the Pool area are available for members to use for men and women over the age of eighteen. For those who prefer to retain the same locker all season, these are available for annual rental.

      Our competitive swim program, coached by Scott Butler, competes in the Connecticut Private Club Swim League.  Our season runs from late June through August 1st. 

      The Pool is open every day from Memorial Day weekend through the Labor Day weekend and a few weekends into September. Group and private swimming lessons are available upon request.

  • Sailing
    • Since 1916, the Harbor committee has been engaging sailors in the Pine Orchard Community and beyond in enjoying all the Thimble Islands and Long Island Sound has to offer.

      POYCC hosts an annual Invitational regatta, which is attended by dozens of local sailing teams and celebrated with an awards dinner after the race!

      We have offered a Club Cruise event for club boaters, an active Junior Sailing Program culminating with a Junior Regatta (more information can be found in the “Junior Program” section), and our club members regularly participate in national and international racing events, including the Newport to Bermuda race—a 600-mile stretch.


  • Harbor


    • POYCC offers slips and moorings for seasonal rental to members. We can accommodate boats up to 60 feet as well as dinghy, kayak, paddleboat, tube, and small sailboat storage. We offer members fuel, oil, ice and diesel as well as launch and pump-out services.


      Hours

      The marina is staffed seven days a week from May through Labor Day from 8AM—sunset. After Labor Day to the end of October the marina is staffed from noon—sunset Tuesday-Friday and 8AM—sunset Saturday and Sunday. The marina is not staffed on Mondays after Labor Day to the end of October.

      The marina is closed November through April except by permission.


      Transient Policy

      It is imperative to call prior for availability. The cost of docking is $5 per boat’s foot per night. If interested in utilizing a mooring, the charge is $75 on weekdays per night and $150 on weekends per night.

      A Transient with reciprocity has use of the Clubhouse and Pool; however, cannot access golf and tennis amenities. Reciprocal Club rules apply when staying at the Club.

      A Transient without reciprocity can only access the Dock and its amenities.

  • Junior Programs

    • Being a family club, how we bring up our children is of utmost importance to us. The Club's focus is to create quality athletic programs and experiences which reinforce social and athletic skills that set the foundation for an active adult life; this has become a primary reason many families join Pine Orchard.
      We offer quality tennis instruction, golf clinics, an excellent swim program and sailing instructions. We also offer arts and crafts for the children, and special week-long workshops in STEM and Bricks4Kids. These program allow opportunities for your child to be actively engaged throughout the summer.

      The Junior Activities Program Book “Fun in the Sun” is completed late-May and will be distributed via email.

      Please note: For all activities, unless advertised, children should be supervised by a parent, guardian, responsible adult, or sitter over the age of sixteen. For all outdoor activities, we highly recommend you child to have a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

      Junior Golf


      Junior Golf includes Junior Golf Camp, Mini-Me Golf Camp, Parent/Junior Tournaments and Championship, Junior Clinics, PGA Junior League, and Junior Club Championships.

      Junior Tennis


      Junior Tennis includes Pre-Season Tennis, Pre-Season Tennis Camp, Junior Tennis Opening Day, Battle of the Burgees Tennis Camp, InterClub Team, USTA Junior Tennis Team, New Haven Open Family Classic, Summer Tennis Clinics, and Junior Club Championships.

      Junior Swimming


      Junior Swimming includes the Swim Team. The Swim Team is divided by age group: 6 & Under, 7 & 8, 9 to 12, and 13 & Over. The Swim Team practices in the morning. There are approximately five meets throughout the season and League Championships; the League includes 17 teams.

      If interested in private lessons, a sign-up sheet is located on the Pool Deck. There is a maximum of two private lessons per week, per instructor. There are also Private, Group & Stroke Clinics available. Please call for rates and availability at 203-483-9860.

      Junior Sailing


      Junior Sailing includes numerous programs: “All You Can Sail,” “Try It Out,” “Dust the Rust,” “Opti & 420 Clinic,” “Beginner Clinic,” “July Sailing Camp,” “August Beginner Clinic,” “Sailing Race Team,” and “Coastal Explores Club."

      Sailing Fleets include the following: Optimist, 420 and Open Bic. Optimist is a small dingy, great for beginners and racers 15 years and younger. 420 is a two person boat sailed by beginners and team racers 11 years and younger. Open Bic is a fun dingy with a surfboard-like hull; great for an experience 10-16 year old. Sailing instructors assist participants in finding the right boat for them.

      To participate in any Junior Sailing program, a participant must be able to swim fifty yards unassisted and wear a personally owned life jacket on the water.

      Clubhouse Activities


      The Clubhouse Activities differ from year to year; however, examples of activities include the Pollinator’s Workshop, Bingo Mania, Curious Creatures, Field Day, Scavenger Hunt, STEAM Class, Cooking Fun, and a Talent Show.
